Twenty years of travel. One experienced storyteller.
Over the years, I’ve found myself in all sorts of places: working as a stewardess on superyachts (yes, like in Below Deck), teaching English in the Caucasus, backpacking through countries solo and now house sitting full time.
What I’ve noticed from my travels is that it’s rarely the historic landmarks or flashy hotels that stick with me. It’s the people, the energy and those weird little moments you couldn’t plan if you tried.
I collect those stories like souvenirs and pour them into my writing. Because it’s those stories that brands need to tap into if they want to stand out.
Hey, I'm Emma.
A freelance travel writer, copywriter, creator and full-time house sitter from Cornwall, UK.
Since 2006, I’ve travelled to over 50 countries and been scammed by a street vendor in exactly one of them — I’m a quick learner.
In fact, my love for travel is such a big part of my personality, it’s become our family catchphrase:
“Where’s Ems?”
From story-led sales pages to blog posts that are never boring, I can help you communicate an experience, a feeling, a sense of belonging, so your brand feels alive, not just another company in the crowd.
Where it all began.
In 2008, I was a twenty-something beauty therapist fed up with the industry’s white walls, whale music and endless use of the word ‘pamper’. So, I opened my own salon: The Great Escape.
Like many first-time business owners, my creativity soon disappeared under the weight of running a startup, and by 2010, we were struggling to stand out in a town brimming with beauticians. That’s when I decided to weave my love of travel into the business.
Travel-themed treatment rooms, playful products and a world map where clients could pin their adventures.
And that’s where my love of storytelling began.
Ways to work together
I’ve written for Marriott Hotels, Moroccan retreats and the London neighbourhood of Bloomsbury. My words have also appeared in BBC Travel, The i Paper and Freelancer Magazine where I’m a regular columnist.
If you’re only interested in ‘doing it for the gram’, chasing clicks, or pleasing algorithms, we might not be the best fit. But if you want your audience to look at your content with wide-eyed wonder, to feel something real and be moved to act, then we might make a perfect team.
Features for online and print publications with a focus on slow, solo and sustainable travel. I also write destination guides, advertorials and other sponsored content.
Whether you need an individual page, a full website or a round of copyediting, I’ll craft first-class, Google-friendly copy that captures the adventure of your big idea.
Regular blog posts and articles for brands who want to stay connected with their audience but don’t have the time to write.
Your LinkedIn content doesn’t have to be boring, stuffy, corporate cr*p. Let me put together some thoughtful, story-led posts that builds your audience and gets you noticed.
I love writing about people and can help with about pages, founder stories, brand origin stories and community profiles. The copy that tells people who you are, why you do it and why they should care.
Website updates, blog publishing, social media scheduling and general digital housekeeping. Charged hourly, this is the add-on for when the content is sorted but you just need someone to make sure it actually goes out into the world.
Why work with me?
I'm experienced.
I’ve spent 20+ years travelling, building brands and telling stories. I’ve learnt what works, what doesn’t and most importantly, what makes people care enough to act.
I'm an explorer.
I’m good at what I do because my nomadic lifestyle trains my storytelling muscles every day. When I write, I draw on these lived experiences to create content alive with detail and adventure.
I care.
I prioritise working with brands who care about making a positive impact. Your mission matters to me, which means you get a storyteller who’s invested in your success.
